At the beginning of October we welcomed two new members of the group: Olivia Nicoletti and Mathias Kobylko. Olivia joins of from Milan, to start her PhD with Paul.
Mathias has just completed his PhD in Orsay, at the Universite Paris Sud, and will work with Cate.
Welcome to both!

September 2008 | | FAREWELL to Richard Beanland and David Sales

At the end of September we said farewell to Richard Beanland and Davis Sales, and wished them all the best for their new and exciting jobs in Warwick and Cadiz, respectively. To celebrate the occasion we had a lively party with Spanish tapas, authentic Japanese sushi, home-made apple pies, and some Flamenco too!

After 5 years in HREM, Takeshi Kasama is leaving Cambridge to join Rafal Dunin-Borkowski at the CEN in Copenhagen, Denmark. Many colleagues and friends came to say farewell to him and Taeko on their last day in the lab. All the best to them, and we hope they will visit us soon!

We welcome Ana Beltran, a student from the University of Cadiz, Departamento de Ciencia de los Materiales e Ingeniería Metalúrgica
y Química Inorgánica, who will be studying quantum dots and semiconductor nanostructures using electron microscopy and tomography.
Ana will be with us until Christmas 2008.

We welcome Juan Carlos Gonzalez, a postdoc from the University of Cadiz, Departamento de Ciencia de los Materiales e Ingeniería Metalúrgica
y Química Inorgánica, who is visiting us to work on electron tomography with Paul under the ESTEEM project.
Juan Carlos will be with us until the end of the year.

We welcome JM Zuo, Associate Professor of Materials Science and Engineering at the University of Illinois
at Urbana-Champaign, who has joined us for three months.
JM says: "I am spending 3 months of my sabbatical leave here at Cambridge, I wish to get several long delayed projects done here and also enjoy the hospitality of the HREM lab. and the rich tradition at Cavendish."
We are very pleased to have him here this Spring!
