PROGRESS on the New Building

Construction work started earlier this year on the new building for the
Department of Materials Science & Metallurgy in West Cambridge.
On the 4th of September 2011 about 1,350 cubic meters of concrete
were poured to form the 2m deep raft foundation of the Electron Microscopy lab.

These images show the progress of the building on the 29th of September 2011 (courtesy of James Loudon).

THANK YOU to Daniel Mayes (EMBS)

We are very grateful to Daniel Mayes of the Estate Management and Building Service of the University, who worked for weeks to identify and resolve the air quality problem in the lab. This was found to be due to an old (and long forgotten) open pipe to the ancient sewage system in Free School Lane. And this -we all hope- is the end of the Great Summer Stench.
