Olivia Nicoletti is a postdoc in the Dept of Materials Science and Metallurgy, University of Cambridge, investigating optical excitations, in particular surface plasmons, of metal nanoparticles using electron energy loss spectroscopy (EELS) techniques under the lead of Prof. Paul A. Midgley.

Her PhD. (October 2008 - 2013) "Mapping Surface Plasmons on Metal Nanoparticles" involved using both energy filtered transmission electron microscopy (EFTEM) and scanning transmission electron microscopy - EELS - spectrum imaging (STEM-EELS-SI) to map surface plasmon waves on metal nanoparticles (mainly silver and gold nanoparticles). Her studies were carried out at the Electron Microscopy facility at the University of Cambridge, at the Stuttgart Centre for Electron Microscopy (StEM), Max Planck Institute for Metal Research in Stuttgart, Germany and at the Center for Electron Nanoscopy (CEN), Technical University of Denmark (DTU) in Lyngby, Denmark.


Since November 2010 Olivia became an Associate of the NanoDTC (http://www.nanodtc.cam.ac.uk/), Department of Physics, University of Cambridge.
